I did a lot of research before choosing the Sony DVP-FX820 and what sold me were all the great reviews (thanks everyone!)I was leaning toward a player with a larger screen, but I trusted what I read about the picture quality of this unit... and I have to say, I received it today and I am amazed. It's much better than I expected! This little dvd player has a better picture than my HD TV!And although the speaker sound is a little hollow (no real base) the volume more than makes up for it... I've heard other players- or should I say I've tried to hear other players- the volume is wonderful on this one, the sound totally acceptable via the speakers and the sound is incredible when I use my 10 yr old Sony Studio Monitor headset.

While I was shopping around, I was a bit concerned about what would happen to my full screen DVDs on this widescreen unit.I read about other units that really stretched the image out so that it looked bad. When I tested this unit, I first saw this approx 5" x 4" image and thought, boy that's weird... it was still ok but I didn't understand it until I read the manual. You can change the format from "Normal" (which is that box that's narrower than the screen), or it can be changed to Full. The Full screen mode doesn't look bad at all.Everyone looks slightly heavier but not distorted... I flipped back and forth between the modes several times to see if I could really see the difference, and it wasn't bad at all- nothing looked distorted.

The battery is nearly the size of the base of the unit but it is very slim and hardly adds thickness to the until (I had read on other untils how the battery was a real detractor- but not with this unit.)

The remote is just the right size- it's big enough where you wouldn't lose it too easily but it's smaller than a normal tv/dvd remote.I didn't want one of those credit card sized ones! And it couldn't be easier to use.

I started out wanting a 10" screen but I changed my mind based on the reviews- and I'm very happy I went with the 8".After I thought about it, I realized that I didn't want to feel like I was carrying around a laptop- I already have a laptop and so why even bother spending $ on a portable DVD player? :)

I highly recommend this Sony unless your heart is really set on a larger one.I now think this size is perfect.

So anyway, I was very happy with the unit before I plugged in my headset. With my headset, this player blows me away- I'm amazed at the quality. And now I've got to look for a case that's worthy of it.:)

UPDATE... I found a great case worthy of this DVD player!!I purchased the Targus DVD001 13 Portable DVD Player Case from Amazon. It is good quality, nicely padded and fits not only the player, but also my large headphones which do fold and all the accessories. It holds a lot of DVDs if you take them out of their cases but I don't like to do that, so it only holds about 4 if you keep the DVDs in their plastic cases. This is my own issue with the case. But I love it and would recommend it to everyone.Oh, it also has a strap that staps across the DVD player to keep it snug and also a divider attached by velcro to separate the dvd player from the accessories you pack with it.Great Bag!

This battery has the built-in chip which shows battery condition and shots taken with the charge. It also comes with a snap-on plate for the bottom that looks the same as the factory one. These are good to put a small mark on the battery and put the plate on so the mark is showing when charged and not showing when depleted....it's a good touch. It is a good alternative. I don't think it's better than the original, but it's certainly as good (so far....4 weeks) It has more power (supposedly) I have probably charged it 8 to 10 times. I notice it charges faster. It's just about 5-10 minutes, but it's something interesting. I timed the first 3-4 charges. It has a 2 year warranty and although Opteka is not a "high-end" name, they have been around for a while. I trust their products. I will buy another one if I ever need one. It's a good price and a good product. There were no reviews when I got mine so here is one to help you decide.

Sony Rechargeable Ni-MH AAA Batteries - 2 Pack Review

Sony Rechargeable Ni-MH AAA Batteries - 2 Pack

I bought a couple of these to use with my Sony BCG-34HD4 charger. These batteries are working great. They're 800mAh (Capacity), larger than the standard AAA size (The also last about twice as long as normal Alkaline batteries). I've used a pair for atleast 50 charges and they're still going. Rechargeable batteries are a much more economical choice for anyone, I use these in an MP3 player. You're pretty safe going with Sony (You can get cheaper NiMH batteries from other brands but you risk getting cheap'os that can leak in your equipment). Remember though, these will only work with NiMH chargers! You should also get a charger that cuts power when fully charged to preserve your battery life.

TV Stick USB 2.0 ATSC and NTSC TV Tuner, Black Review

TV Stick USB 2.0 ATSC and NTSC TV Tuner, Black

Before you order read the Eforcity return policy which boils down to "if you open the package you cannot return it"I opened the package so I'm out about $35 and about four hours of frustration trying to install the @%#!*& thing.Written instructions refer to a software cd that is not included. The address to a driver download website is given but the 80 mb download from their, I presume, hand-cranked server took almost an hour even on a connection rated at 54 Mb/second.The user is left on their own to figure out that the operating software is zipped in with the driver software and to figure out which setup file to evoke and then work around driver signing issues with windows.Don't be stupid!Set up a restore point before you try to install.Several lockups and crashes later I did get the software to recognize the device and started a scan for signals.None were found though I am less than a mile from the antennas which serve all the local stations.Rather than throw good money after bad I think I'll save the cost of return postage and the vexation of being refused a refund because I opened the package.I'll just eat it for my $35 and hope this review costs Eforcity a lot more than that.

Mygica USB QAM HDTV Tuner, Clear QAM and ATSC with Bonus Antenna Review

Mygica USB QAM HDTV Tuner, Clear QAM and ATSC with Bonus Antenna
Average Reviews:

I am using this on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

You may hit one website where this is documented and where you can download the latest drivers, meritline...Here are some helpful hints and what I was able to get to work and what you may not want to try because it doesn't work. The only reason I am giving this one less star is because I had to compile information from everywhere and the remote is useless i.e. they should just send this product without remote, it doesn't work, DOA, bad design, well known problem.Of course don't expect tech support, well written manuals. If I am rating this as a novice user, I would give it 3 stars.

Connected the tuner to my usb port, driver failed to install. As suggested, do not use the enclosed DVD for anything except the Remote IR driver. If you can't find it, wait till you install the new Win7 driver from meritline.Do not use the driver from the DVD else it will default to antenna, no cable, and therefore no QAM.

Note, if you mess up, you will have to go into settings (tasks) in media center to further configure TV.Regardless, Media center will complain that signal or something could not determine (don't remember the exact message).Ignore it and choose configure manually; cable or antenna manually (in my case, comcast so I chose Cable).Wait a long time, could be 2-20 minutes while it scans the channels. If you find no channels, you may have a driver issue or bad cable.

You can install the drivers manually or extract the zipped file from meritline and run setup (32 or 64 bit depending on your os).In my case, the driver release date is 11/17/2009, version 11.20220.176.201.In device manager you should see HDTV Stick Digital Capture under Sould controllers. If any of this doesn't match your conviguration, deinstall all drivers associated with this and start over (maybe use the system restore so create a restore point as an option before you continue for the first time).

Just use the right driver and the rest is a breeze; expect 10-20 min the first time you scan.I am in Chicago and getting about 50 channels.Unfortunately, Comcast here just went encrypted so for all practical purposes, I am only getting OTA channels but they come in Dolby and clear with no stutter. As I said before the IR and remote are useless so time to get another remote or use the wireless mouse.I needed cheap to test, my next one will be a cablecard setup so to me this was money well spent.

I also tried to use the NTSC driver to see if I could setup ch. 3 or 4 and use the comcast box (which works on my ntsc tv and I get all channels because it's a digital set top box). For some reason, I couldn't get it to work.I have always wondered so now I know it's a no go unless I write the driver myself, ain't happening.

I also played with the ATSC driver for OTA digital channels. The included antenna is a joke.I tried the outdoor antenna and the picture was decent and I could get all local ota channels.

Summary, only good for the tuner, the rest is frivolous. For $25, why not.I'll wait for Ceton to come down a bit.
